I bought a restock kit and this came in it. The reason for me buying this was to start my first aid kit which was a project for my EMT class. I ended up going to my fire explorers meet today which is an hour away and decide to bring my kit. During this meeting, we were pulling lines and practicing how to charge and discharge the hoses. If you have ever worn bunker gear you know it’s heavy, thick, and restricting so you can start a pretty good sweat easily. After the drill was over I had lost a significant amount of water and thought it would be a good idea to stop for food. But since I was driving I couldn’t eat my burger and fries. Eventually, it got so bad I thought I was about to vomit so I pulled into a parking lot and stepped out to get fresh air. I then decided to have some fries but which helped but didn’t do much. I then pulled the glucose gel out of my bag hoping not to use it but only as a last resort. As I sucked on my milkshake hoping it would fix the issue I decided I needed to use the gel. While at first you regret taking it (the taste is awful) I was very grateful because I think that packet saved me from a trip to the emergency room. While it wasn’t perfect and I was still hungry it wasn’t overbearing. It was enough to help me get home so that I can eat my burger. Personally, I’m about 5’8″and 1/2 160lbs and it helped I would recommend for people who are bigger or have lower blood sugar pair this with something such as a milkshake to help especially if you are in the same situation as me. I don’t know if having two of these packets would be bad but that could be another option. All in all very useful for many situations also if you like the taste of cough medicine then you’ll love the taste of this. Don’t be afraid to use it on yourself either because while the taste does suck it isn’t the worst thing ever.

First these gels are appropriately disgusting (medicine isn’t supposed to taste good!), as a diabetic when someone has really low blood sugar their taste buds are also off. That being said:

The worst part of these gels is that when you are dangerously low they may not work well as a single dosing. I’ve personally needed to use the single one that came in the kit purchased by the customer that referred me. It would have been better for the kit to come with 5 minimum since there are individuals who need two or three per episode. I bought these as a replacement for the 1 used and so I could have a few in case I got that low again.

I can’t wait to build my bag when your new backpack comes out.
